Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Syria to the semi-finals of the U-23 Championship
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan and Syria qualified for the semi-finals of the second WAFF U-23 Championship, which is hosted by the Saudi Federation in Dammam and Al Khobar until October 12, 2021.
The semi-final matches of the tournament will be held on October 10, 2021, where the Jordanian and Syrian teams will meet at 5.45 pm Saudi time at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium in Al Khobar, and Saudi Arabia and Iraq will meet at 8.00 pm at Prince Muhammad bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam.
The winners of the two matches will qualify for the final scene scheduled for 6 p.m. on October 12, 2021 at Prince Muhammad bin Fahd Stadium.
The Saudi team managed to lead the third group with 6 points, after achieving the second victory in the third and final round, at the expense of its Bahraini counterpart 3-0 in a match held at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium.
The goals of Saudi Arabia were scored by Hamad Al-Dhaifan (48’), Abdullah Radeef (54’) and Muhammad Maran (73’)
The Syrian team qualified as the best runner-up after it finished with 3 points in the third group, after the results of the runner-ups against the fourth-ranked teams were crossed out, given that there are 4 teams in each of the first two groups and 3 teams in the third group.
As for the Jordanian team, it defeated Yemen 2-1 to reach their sixth point and thus snatched the top of the first group, which witnessed a 1-1 tie between the Omani and Kuwaiti teams.
Jordan scored first through Abdullah Al-Shuaibat in the 36th minute from a penalty kick, then Omar Al-Dahi in the 42nd minute equalized the result for Yemen before Muhammad Abu Rezeq scored the winning goal for Jordan in the 88th minute.
In the other match, Abdullah Al Balushi opened the scoring in the 52nd minute for Oman, and Bandar Al-Salama equalized in the third minute of stoppage time for Kuwait.
On the other hand, the Iraqi team qualified as the champion of the second group with 7 points, after a 2-2 draw with Lebanon, which settled in the last standings, behind the Palestine team that won 1-0 over UAE.
Zidan Iqbal (14’) opened the scoring for Iraq and Ahmed Omar (55’) scored the second while, Muhammad Nasser (33’, 45’) scored for Lebanon.
Palestine’s sole goal against UAE came by Badr Musa (11’).
